E3 '08: Solid Snake actor writing Lost Planet movie

Capcom is expanding its push into Hollywood, according to the Hollywood trade paper Variety. Not content with a new Street Fighter movie and the possibility of a fourth Resident Evil flick, the publisher has reportedly signed a deal with Warner Bros. that will see the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC action game Lost Planet: Extreme Condition hit the big screen.

The movie will apparently be produced by Seaside Entertainment (likely in conjunction with Capcom), and the screenplay assignment for the project has gone to David Hayter. Familiar to gamers as the voice of Solid Snake in Konami's Metal Gear Solid series, Hayter has a wealth of experience as a writer, having penned the upcoming film adaptation of DC Comics' Watchmen, as well as the first two X-Men movies.

The article didn't discuss possible casting, storylines, or release dates, but the location is likely set in stone (or snow, as it were). The game's defining characteristic was its frigid setting, a planet in the midst of a brutal ice age, and populated by menacing aliens.

The film is expected to be announced formally during Capcom's E3 Media & Business Summit press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Konami passes Judgment on Castlevania

Beginning with Castlevania on the Nintendo 64, Konami has for the past 10 years rendered Koji Igarashi's famed vampire-slaying franchise on consoles in 3D, while maintaining the series' traditional 2D aesthetic on handhelds. Throughout that span, the publisher has maintained a consistent record of winning critical praise for its side-scrolling handheld efforts and receiving a generally tepid reception for its console games.

With Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia slated to arrive on the Nintendo DS this fall, Konami is once again returning with a 3D console game: Castlevania Judgment for the Wii. However, rather than taking another crack of the whip at the action adventure genre, Konami has a mind to reinvigorate the franchise by entering the Belmont clan and its demonic nemeses into a battle-royal fighting arena.

Though Konami has named no specific fighters, the publisher said that it would be pulling its cast from the franchise's entire 22-year history. Making use of the Wii's motion-sensing control scheme, Konami notes that players will control their fighters using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to attack, along with brandishing objects and items strewn around the 3D environments. Players will also be able to set traps as well as enlist monsters to fight for them, though Konami did not expound on the nature of these mechanics.

Castlevania Judgment will feature an online fighting mode, and will also interface with Order of Ecclesia on the DS for added gameplay content. The game is expected to ship for the Wii this fall.

Devil May Cry 4 Hands-On

PC gamers have to tip their hats to Capcom. With most of the company's major console releases also appearing on the PC, action fans don't need to run to a console to experience third-person action games like the upcoming Bionic Commando and the already released Devil May Cry 4. What you will need, however, is a gamepad.

We plugged in our handy Xbox 360 wired controller for some bloody Devil May Cry 4 action this week; keyboard controls are supported but this game is simply way too fast. Almost immediately--that is, after the awesome opening cutscene of the type that the DMC franchise is known for--we started slicing and dicing through hordes of evil creatures and sending them back to the darkness from whence they came, collecting proud souls in the process.

For those new to the franchise, proud souls are the glowing orbs that you are rewarded with for offing enemies with particularly nasty combos. They act as currency to upgrade your weapons and purchase additional combos. Oh, and you play as Nero, a towheaded warrior armed with his trusty Blue Rose pistol, Red Queen sword, and a demonic arm called the Devil Bringer. To really get a handle on DMC4, check out Kevin Van Ord's review of the console version that was released back in February. We're here to talk about some of the exclusive PC features.

First, there are two new modes. Turbo mode speeds up the action so you'll be sure to develop some calluses on your thumbs as you unleash combos at a ferocious pace--as if DMC4 wasn't already fast enough. The Legendary Dark Knight mode will put your gaming rig to the test because it will up the enemy count, sometimes to more than 100 foes onscreen, so be sure to sharpen your sword. Also, enemies will be located in different areas than the console version, which is a simple change of pace for those who have played DMC4 before, and a good touch if not exactly revolutionary. If your rig is struggling with all of the blood and gore, you can of course customize your graphics settings within the game or try out the new benchmark testing, a series of boss fights that test your rig to see if it's up to the challenge.

Earlier this week we blasted through one of the many boss fights, this one against a demon who thinks he's an angel. Using the Devil Bringer, we latched on to the enemy's face, jumped over his body, spun around, and then unleashed a barrage of aerial attacks followed by a few pistol blasts for good measure. A quick note: Bullets don't usually work on bosses, and they didn't help here. We dodged the demon's impossible-to-block sword attack and the giant gold spears he hurled at us, and then repeated the Devil Bringer combo attack until he was defeated in a gloriously gory cutscene that you have to see for yourself.

The experimentation of the swordplay is really the biggest draw to the combat in DMC4. Timing is everything, and a split-second difference between button presses can change a combo completely. Perfectly executed combos may initiate a deadly finishing move that is so fun to watch you'll wish your rig had TiVo.

Visually, DMC4 looks amazing. The lighting and textures improve on the game's console counterparts, and it takes advantage of the PC platform. The sweeping theatrical cutscenes run at 120 frames per second, which puts the 30fps scenes in the console version to shame. Plus, you can play it in either DirectX 9 or 10. Even though you had to wait until now to play DMC4 on the PC, kudos to Capcom for giving the PC version exclusive content and features that the platform deserves (and for only $39.99).

With a career that involves negotiating with warlords and avoiding a near-constant hailstorm of bullets, mercenaries live by a simple but reassuring motto: "Everybody pays." But occasionally, a client will fail to abide by this creed. That's when things turn sour and business partners become enemies. So begins Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, the sequel to a game that earned critical acclaim for its unabashed focus on sandbox mayhem and real-world political themes. We were recently able to play our way through a handful of Mercenaries 2's introductory missions. While brief, it was enough time to see that the formula that made the first game so appealing has been preserved nicely despite the 14,000 kilometer move from North Korea to Venezuela.

The first mission in Mercenaries 2 finds you working for a mysterious but undeniably charming man named Ramon Solano. He's asked you to rescue a military officer who's recently been taken captive by some of the renegade troops running around this fictionalized Venezuela. You start out the mission in style: cruising through the open seas on a speedboat. Pandemic has decided to introduce you to your newfound ability to hit the sea from the get-go because, perhaps, these new maritime vehicles will become a common sight in the game. The world map, which is said to be 8x8 kilometers in size with a 2.5 kilometer draw distance, is covered by a hefty amount of open sea. When not running through condensed versions of such major Venezuelan cities as Maracaibo, Caracas, and Valencia, you'll be bouncing through the waves in between the game's several islands.

After navigating your way through a narrow passageway of seaside cliffs, you'll wind up in a calm bay isolated from the dangers of the high sea. But it's not isolated from soldiers armed to the teeth with assault rifles, so just as you step off the boat, you'll immediately need to engage in some heavy warfare. From here, it's the familiar Mercenaries style of run-and-gun combat. Those who've spent much time with this year's other big sandbox game, Grand Theft Auto IV, may find themselves instinctively reaching for the cover button. But unfortunately, a cover system is not one of the features Pandemic has added to Mercenaries 2. With heavily destructible environments operating under the Havok physics engine, Pandemic decided it wouldn't make much sense to give you the opportunity to hide behind objects that would just get blown up anyways. Still, in our time with the game, we felt like we could really use it.

But one thing Pandemic has decided to work toward is--to quote creative director Cameron Brown--the "world's biggest explosion." A lofty goal, to be sure. And while that may be pie-in-the-sky thinking, you can really get a sense of Pandemic's dedication to ramping up the chaos that made the first Mercenaries so appealing. Even in this first mission, we were given the opportunity to call in an airstrike when met with a tall, stone gate. Once you've unlocked everything there is to get, you'll be able to call in airstrikes using the likes of daisy cutters, manually laser-guided bombs, tactical nuclear bombs, and even a little number called the Mother of All Bombs--or MOAB for short.

Once we got past this gate, it was time to hijack a jeep. We could have had the chance to test out the new Quick-Time Event minigame required to hijack a nearby tank were it not for the fact that our poorly aimed airstrike took out the gate in addition to the tank. But no matter--we were off and on our way, still on the lookout for that captured officer. Cruising through the windy dirt roads of mountainous Venezuela, we ran into several pockets of armed soldiers. Eventually, we found a shanty town up in the hills, divided several times over by a series of switchback roads crossing through the village. Rather than take the road, we decided to test out the destructible environments by putting these shacks in an unfair fight against our jeep. Sadly, the shacks lost. But it's not just the shanty towns that can be taken down. Later in the game, when you make your way to the big city, you'll be able to knock down entire buildings. The explosions in the game look really nice, too. From the sweltering fire effects to the way buildings topple over rather than burst into pieces, the attention paid to making the environment more fun to destroy seems to have worked out well.

Finally, we found our man. The officer, Carmona, was being held in an underground jail cell. We managed to rescue him and bring him back to Solano. But unfortunately, Solano's idea of a reward is to have you killed. He'd been planning on staging a coup to assume control of Venezuela, and with you having just Ramboed your way though scores of armed soldiers, he sees you as a potential threat down the line. But just as the gun is drawn, you take off running and manage to escape no worse for the wear--except for the bullet lodged in your posterior. This opening sequence plays out a little differently depending on whether you choose Mattias, Chris, or Jennifer, but the basic gist is the same: You've been wronged and now you're out for vengeance. This tale of revenge is one of the themes Pandemic has added to the storyline to give it a personal touch rather than having you play the cold-blooded mercenary who's only out to get paid.

In the next mission, you need to find a center of operations. You then kill two birds with one stone by ambushing one of Solano's estates to take it over. While racing to this location, you may discover a few things about the roads: There aren't many pedestrians because most of the locales are occupied military zones and the few there are can't be run over without losing money. It isn't terribly grisly when you do run someone over. This seems to fall in line with Pandemic's focus on exaggerated, over-the-top violence to help maintain the Teen rating for which it is aiming.

But eventually, you'll get your compound and start on a journey that will align you with several warring factions in a war-torn Venezuela that's just about ready to fall apart at any moment. In our demo, we really enjoyed the scope of the new setting. The visibility was surprisingly in terms of distance, especially from elevated terrain. While the visuals displayed some hiccups common in unfinished builds, the actual explosions and demolitions looked great. We'll be looking forward to future coverage so we can further explore the diverse Venezuelan terrain--not to mention some of the more intriguing new features like the ability to create your own private military company and online co-op.

Mercenaries 2 is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2. The primary difference among them--besides the obvious visual disparity--is that the PlayStation 2 version will not support co-op multiplayer like the current-gen versions. You can expect to see the game arrive on August 31.

Report: PS3 power-hungrier than five fridges

The PlayStation 3: Blu-ray player, next-gen game machine, multimedia hub--and power guzzler. According to a report by the Australian Consumers' Association's Choice publication, leaving your PS3 on when you're not gaming can cost you A$250 ($239) a year in electricity bills.

That's the same as five refrigerators, and "serves as an important reminder to turn off video game systems after use." Before Microsoft fans get too smug, though, the Xbox 360 came in at a close second place.

The PS3, while on and running a game, consumes some 33.34kWh weekly--equivalent to around A$5 ($4.79). When on but idle, it uses almost as much, sapping 31.74kWh, or A$4.76 ($4.56). When the machine was off (with the back switch on), power usage plummeted to 0.30kWh, or A$0.04 ($0.04) a week.

In comparison, the Xbox 360 used up 26kWh per week in power when on and running a game--about A$3.90 ($3.73) in real money. When on but idle, the figure was slightly reduced to 23.47kWh or around A$3.53 ($3.37), and when off used up only 0.40kWh or A$0.06 ($0.06) a week.

Unsurprisingly, the Nintendo Wii used the least power--under 10 percent of that needed for the PS3. Playing a game, it uses 3.14kWh costing A$0.47 ($0.45) a week, and on but idle it drained 2.97kWh or A$0.45 ($0.43). When the console was switched off, but WiiConnect24 remained on, this dropped to 1.78kWh, costing A$0.27 ($0.26) a week. When WiiConnect24 was also turned off, this figure became 0.32kWh or A$0.05 ($0.05) a week.

The report also found that the Plasma TV set tested was also a "power hungry device" and required over four times as much power as a traditional CRT analogue TV set.

8.5M GTA IVs rev Take-Two revs

The second quarter of Take-Two Interactive's fiscal year ended on April 30, the day after Grand Theft Auto IV went on sale. However, the 48 hours following the countrywide midnight launch events for the game saw Algonquin Island-sized sales, according to an earnings report released today.

For three-month period, Take-Two revenues increased 162 percent year-over-year, from $205.4 million in 2007 to $539.8 million in 2008. Net income--aka profit--was $98.2 million ($1.29 per share), versus a net loss of $51.2 million or ($0.71 per share) the year prior. The figures were far above most analysts' expectations, with a survey of analysts by Reuters estimating revenues of just $322 million.

The profit also came in spite of a spate of major expenses for Take-Two. These included a $12.4 million for stock-based compensation and a whopping $3.8 million "professional fees and legal expenses, primarily related to Electronic Arts' unsolicited tender offer."

Initiated in February, EA's takeover bid was postponed for a third time yesterday. The rival publisher's offer of $25.74 per share is now well below Take-Two's share price, which was $27.65 at the end of trading today. The stock was down slightly in after-hours trading.

Speaking with analysts following the report's release, Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick reiterated his defiance. "At the time of EA's unsolicited tender offer, we emphasized the board's commitment to explore all strategic alternatives including remaining independent," he proclaimed. "We said we were willing to begin formal discussions with interested parties on April 30 following the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, and we're actively engaged in that process now. In fact, we have had and continue to have formal discussions with a number of interested parties."

EA's offer is bound to look even less attractive by the time of Take-Two's next earnings report, thanks to sales that GTAIV's Brucie could only describe as "Alpha." As of May 31, a staggering 8.5 million copies of the game were sold worldwide, and a total of 11 million units have been shipped to stores. Last month, Take-Two reported GTAIV had sold over 6 million copies during its first week on the market, generating over $500 million.

Besides retail software sales, GTAIV will also generate a second wave of revenue when downloadable episodic content is released for the Xbox 360 version of the game. Speaking with analysts, CFO Ben Feder announced the DLC--which is being touted as the first of several robust updates--will be released during the first quarter of Take-Two's 2009 fiscal year, which runs from November to January. It had been expected in October, when GTA rival Saints Row 2 will now hit the market.

[UPDATE] But while GTAIV is proving a veritable money-minting machine, other Take-Two franchises are not faring as well. Feder said flat out that "we no longer anticipate reaching profitability in our 2K Sports business in fiscal 2008." On the division's roster this year are such titles as NBA 2K9 and NHL 2K9, with College Hoops 2K9 recently canceled and the All-Pro Football franchise skipping this year--if it returns at all.

Looking ahead, Take-Two executives said that the publisher currently has some 33 titles in various stages of development, including BioShock 2. When asked about the upcoming BioShock film--which has "no risk" and an "economic upside" for the publisher--Zelnick warned that the project wouldn't arrive alongside the sequel, due in fall 2009. "It would be more likely that it would be released coincidentally with BioShock 3," he said, revealing Take-Two's intention to make a trilogy out of the award-winning PC, Xbox 360, and soon PlayStation 3 title.

Guidance-wise, Take-Two raised its estimates to $325 to $375 million for the current May-July quarter. It expects to take in $300 to $350 million during the following three months, bringing its full-year revenue to $1.4 billion to $1.5 billion.

The Incredible Hulk First Look

With rumors swirling about creative differences on the set of the upcoming Incredible Hulk film, it's understandable that there are some questions as to how the video game based on the movie is going to turn out. The last Hulk game turned out to be pretty good in spite of the movie being less than stellar, and judging by our first look at the current-gen version of The Incredible Hulk, this game is poised to deliver what Hulk fans want regardless of how the movie turns out.

The Incredible Hulk begins with a brief cutscene showing Bruce Banner standing in the snow with a loaded pistol in his mouth. Just as a shot rings out the screen goes black, and when the picture comes back the Hulk, standing where Banner once stood, spits out the bullet. From there the game jumps ahead five years and shows a cutscene with Bruce being chased by some sort of special-ops unit through the streets of Brazil. Suddenly a helicopter appears, and Banner ducks into a building to get away. But it's too late; the helicopter fires a missile into the building, turning it into rubble.

From here the game is in your hands. You start by mashing the Y button, which performs one of the Hulk's "feats of strength," which in this case involves him digging out from a demolished concrete building. Once he has dusted himself off the Hulk sets off into a factory to exact revenge on the people chasing him. This area acts as a training level, and it's where you'll get acquainted with the Hulk's many moves--conveyor belts will be leveled, puny humans will be thrown, soldiers wearing mechanized suits will be cast aside, and doors will crumble under the weight of his mighty fists. The level ends after an encounter with the game's first boss, Emil Blonsky, who after suffering defeat at the hands of the Hulk discusses what happened with General Ross.

All the major characters in the game are voiced by the actors who portrayed them in the movie. That means you'll be hearing the likes of Tim Roth, William Hurt, Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, and Tim Blake Nelson--not a bad list of talent for a video game. Obviously the game will focus on the events of the movie, but to expand the game into an eight-plus hour experience the developer has worked with Marvel to integrate other characters, storylines, and themes from the Hulk and Marvel universes. You'll follow parts of the movie, but another major storyline takes place in New York City, where a terrorist group called The Enclave is using the city as a training facility.

After Brazil, we skipped ahead a bit to New York City. The developer has re-created 85 percent of Manhattan and the city is yours to explore. Times Square, Central Park--it's all here. A few neat touches that Marvel fans will appreciate were the Baxter Building (home of the Fantastic Four) and ads for Peter Parker's newspaper, the Daily Bugle, on the sides of buses. As in the real city, pedestrians roam the sidewalks and cabs clog the streets. What's more, they all react realistically to the Hulk's intimidating presence. People will run away screaming and cars will come to a screeching halt, throw it in reverse, or sometimes run into other cars at the sight of Banner's alter ego. Of course, there's more to the game than scaring people by walking around. You can pick people up, "help" them get where they're going by scooping up their cars and tossing them, rip up light poles, smash fire hydrants, and climb any building you choose.

Exploring the city and causing mayhem seems like it will be fun for quite some time, but you'll want to be careful because if you cause too much damage, the police, the military, and eventually Iron Man will be deployed to stop you. Once you've had your fill of destruction, it's time to move on to doing some good. Rick Jones, who's not in the movie but is in the game, acts as your guide. He'll give you information on what the bad guys are up to and tell you where in the city you need to go. Speaking of bad guys, there are plenty of them. In addition to the first fight with Blonsky, we saw the Hulk take on a giant robot (you'll encounter this fellow several times and each time he'll be more difficult), Bi-Beast in an encounter that started on a rooftop and ended in bustling Times Square, and even the U-foes, who are kind of like an evil version of the Fantastic Four. Vapor can turn into three different gasses, each of which harm the Hulk in a different way. X-Ray can shoot radiation, Ironclad's super strength gives the Hulk a taste of his own medicine, and Vector uses telekinesis to grab nearby objects and use them as a shield or fling them at the Hulk.

Fighting each U-foe individually would be tough, but Hulk had to take all of them out at the same time. It's a good thing he has so many ways to deal damage. Of course he can use his fists and simply pummel dudes, but he can also pound the ground to cause a concussion blast, pick up nearly everything in his environment and fling it as a projectile weapon, pull up concrete and use it as a shield, and even grab cars, rip them apart, and use them as steel-reinforced boxing gloves. He'll earn new moves by performing feats such as picking a fight, scoring 500 points (you get points for nearly everything you do), destroying 25 buildings, and more. Hulk can fill his rage meter by receiving damage, killing bad guys, smashing buildings, and generally wreaking havoc. Once this meter is full he can unleash ultrapowerful rage attacks, and you can even use this rage to level every single building in the game.

If you need a break from fighting evil you can always roam around and torment random citizens, and you can also play some of the numerous minigames sprinkled about the city. Bullseye places you on top of a building facing a huge target that's hung on another building. Your goal is to pick up light poles and try to get a bullseye by throwing them into the target. Another minigame called Whack-a-Mole has you pounding tank turrets. And in a nod to a classic Sega game, there's a Crazy Taxi minigame where you pick up vehicles and carry them to their destination.

The Incredible Hulk seems to be shaping up nicely, and it appears that the developer is keen to deliver the same fun gameplay of the last game while at the same time integrating a better story and more objectives. We weren't able to get our hands on the game so we can't speak to how the controls handle, and it looked as if the camera could be a bit troublesome, but for the most part the game looks promising. There's no firm release date yet, but look for The Incredible Hulk to hit stores sometime this June, right around time of the movie's release.

ABG perempuan yang namanya tak mau disebutkan menerangkan, SMS tadi dikirim saat dirinya tak ada kegiatan sehingga dirinya terkenang dengan teman-temannya. Saat teringat dengan rekannya tadi, Ia iseng-iseng mengirimkan SMS dengan nada sedikit usil.

Adapun isi SMS tadi yaitu meminta teman-temannya untuk berhati-hati jika menerima SMS dari nomor 0866 dengan tampilan warna merah di layar ponsel. Sebaiknya tidak diangkat karena bisa menyebabkan orang yang mengangkatnya meninggal dunia.

Masih menurut SMS tadi, di Jakarta disebutkan kalau ada orang yang meninggal dunia setelah membuka. Untuk meyakinkan rekan-rekan tadi, ia meminta agar SMS ini diteruskan ke nomor yang lain. Ia tak menyangka kalau SMS untuk mengisengi teman-temannya menyebar luas sampai keluar Kepri. Untuk itu, Ia perlu meluruskan masalah ini agar tak membuat warga merasa resah.

Demonoid situs tracker BitTorrent kembali online. Demonoid diperintahkan menghentikan kegiatannya dari negara Belanda. Bahkan pemerintah menekan larangan link ke Demonoid melalui ISP pada Juni 2007.
Demonoid sempat memindahkan server ke Kanada, bahkan disana sempat juga diperintahkan tutup dan harus mematikan server mereka, beberapa hari lalu menghilang sampai 2 kali.

Demonoid tidak pernah memberikan apa yang telah terjadi sebenarnya. Dugaan awal dikatakan masalah server hardware mereka yang bermasalah. Demonoid kembali offline pada bulan September 2007. Akhirnya ketahuan bahwa situs Demonoid diancam oleh CRIA. Perjuangan Demonoid belum berhenti disitu, karena pada 9 November diumumkan situs mereka memang dilarang lagi oleh CRIA.

Sebuah perusahaan furniture di Inggris melakukan survey terhadap 2.000 penduduk Inggris mengenai kegiatan yang mereka lakukan di kamar tidurnya. Dari hasil survey tersebut, ternyata seks bukanlah kegiatan utama.

Kebanyakan dari mereka malah menghabiskan waktu di tempat tidur dengan membaca buku, telepon atau bermain video game, ketimbang menyalurkan hasrat seksualnya.

Hasil survey menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat Inggris hanya menyediakan waktu untuk melakukan hubungan seksual di kamar tidurnya selama 45 menit perminggu.

Sedangkan waktu yang mereka habiskan untuk menelpon adalah 27 menit setiap harinya. Selama satu minggu, mereka menghabiskan waktu untuk menonton TV di kamar tidur selama 80 menit.

Tak seperti film mengenai superhero yang lain, penyajian 'Iron Man' lebih menarik. Komposisi antara unsur action, romance serta komedi yang ada di film tersebut sangat pas dan tidak berlebihan sehingga dapat dinikmati oleh semua umur.

Alur cerita pun dibuat sangat seru dan tidak membosankan. Walaupun durasinya relatih lama yaitu hampir 2 jam, penonton dapat menikmati film tersebut sampai akhir. Para gamer mengungkapkan rasa ketidakpuasan mereka terhadap sistem operasi terbaru Microsoft ini melalui forum online yang biasa mereka gunakan.Salah satunya menyoroti crash atau melambatnya beberapa game yang sebelumnya dijalankan pada Windows XP. Meski hanya beberapa, namun mereka menganggap game tersebut tergolong penting.

Alhasil, komentar-komentar sinis pun mulai membanjiri forum diskusi yang terdapat di situs salah satu pembuat kartu grafis terkemuka, Nvidia Corp.

"Memformat PC (personal computer), install Vista, update beberapa driver, (maka) sekarang setengah dari game milik saya tidak bisa dijalankan," tulis salah satu pesan. "Kau instal Vista. Kau mendapatkan masalahmu," keluh yang lain.

Seperti dilansir ComputerWorld, Senin (12/2/2007), para gamer yang mem-posting berbagai keluh kesah ini termasuk ke dalam hardcore gamer, padahal mereka sebenarnya merupakan pelanggan potensial bagi Vista.

Mereka menyebut sebagian besar masalah yang terjadi terdapat pada model permainan first-person shooter seperti CounterStrike, Half-Life 2, Doom 3 dan F.E.A.R. Pasalnya, jenis game ini cenderung menguras lebih banyak kapabilitas grafis PC dibandingkan dengan aplikasi bisnis dan multimedia.

Akibatnya, para ahli menyalahkan driver yang dianggapnya belum mumpuni dan kompleksitas di Vista sehingga harus mengaplikasikan DirectX 10.

Padahal sebelumnya Microsoft pernah berujar, Vista akan kompatibel dengan DirectX 9 sebagai mesin grafis XP dan akan mensupport game yang ada saat ini.

Kisah cinta kadang berakhir tragis. Seperti yang dialami seorang wanita Australia yang dijebloskan ke penjara akibat menjalin asmara dengan teman main game online.

Seorang mahasiswi berusia 31 tahun asal Australia, Tamara Broome, adalah penggemar game World of Warcraft (WoW). Di dunia maya itu ia bukan hanya menemukan petualangan, tapi juga asmara.

Sial bagi Broome, saat ingin melanjutkan asmara itu ke tingkat yang lebih tinggi ia justru harus masuk penjara. Ini dikarenakan kisah cintanya selama setahun itu dijalin dengan seorang pemuda 17 tahun asal Amerika Serikat.

Saat Broome mendatangi sang kekasih di negara asalnya, ia dimasukkan penjara dengan tuduhan hendak melakukan penculikan pada anak di bawah umur. Kekasihnya, menurut hukum setempat di North Carolina, memang masih dikategorikan sebagai anak bawah umur.

Di sisi lain, keluarga Broome di Australia menuding keluarga sang pemuda menjebak Broome. Bahkan ada dugaan biaya penerbangan Broome ke AS ditanggung oleh keluarga sang pemuda.

Tudingan itu dibantah oleh Detektif yang menangani kasus tersebut.

Menganalisa 100 pemain yang dibagi menjadi 4 group. Walau FIFA versi offline masih tetap ada, sepertinya Electronic Arts terus mengarahkan game ini ke versi massive multiplayer online(MMO)nya. Versi online pertama keluar di Korea Selatan pada tahun 2006 ketika FIFA World Cup 2006 diadakan di Jerman.

FIFA Online dikerjakan bersama-sama perusahaan game Seoul bernama NeoWiz. Tidak seperti prediksi awal yang standar-standar saja, ternyata game FIFA Online sukses dengan 600.000 gamer sehari pada tanggal 17-18 Juni 2006. Sayangnya game ini tidak keluar dari negara Korea sehingga sebagian besar gamer tidak mengenal keberadaan game ini.

Circle adalah sebuah organisasi yang makin mempererat komunitas sesama pemain. Banyak kuis dan tugas-tugas yang bisa dilakukan bersama-sama dalam sebuah Circle, tentunya dengan hadiah yang lebih menarik. Sebuah Circle dapat berkompetisi dengan Circle lain untuk memperebutkan ranking Circle yang terbaik. Proctor di sini bisa diartikan sebagai senior.
